new book release: reflection – response

I am pleased to announce the release of my latest book of poetry titled:

REFLECTION – RESPONSE  through the voice of poetry.

As an introduction, this collection of poems is premised on reflection of the many important and diverse issues facing the global human community today and, through the voice of poetry, express my personal response to a perceived affect these issues are having on human, societal evolution.  Interspersed amongst these poems are several reflecting a personal philosophy toward life, sexuality and the environment.

I hope you will take a few moments to visit my Self-publishing website by clicking on the image below to review the contents of this book and,  I would be further honored if you found it worthy of purchasing at a reasonable cost.  It is available as Soft-cover and Hard-cover issues.

Thank you in advance for your time in this regard.

Enjoy:

Stephen F. Cohen is professor emeritus of Russian studies

In response to an article titled Distorting Russia: How the US Media Misrepresents Sochi, Putin, and Ukraine written by Stephen F. Cohen is professor emeritus of Russian studies at New York University and professor emeritus of politics at Princeton University. His books include Soviet Fates and Lost Alternatives: From Stalinism to the New Cold War.

This piece originally appeared in The Nation. ,

I submitted the following comment:

Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Syria, Venezuela, Ukraine…. a growing list of countries thrown into chaos premised on civil unrest purportedly spawned from decades of repressive, dictatorial regimes.

We, the citizens of so-called western democracies, whose treasure and prodigy are willfully and obligingly expended in these conflagrations; we should demand emphasis be directed toward clarifying the motivation(s) of our political elites in their life-expending, strategic decision-making, game of global chess that is blindly supported through partisan biased, sound-bite echoing, ill-informed commercial main-stream media reporting and, the sycophant behavior of equally ill-informed and financially motivated pundits.

As an avid follower of these unsettling, world events it is increasingly difficult to believe in the functionality of civil, global society; a collective that appears willing to let itself to be driven toward an apocalyptic abyss by the pathological, psychopathic maneuverings of but a few of our species. If there is ever a time in our human history that represents the worse of humanity it is Now, this time, this place. On every front, every issue, chaos presents an opportunity for the collapse of civil, human existence to which our elected representatives respond; not with solution but, with derision, division and duplicitous rhetoric.

MIRACLE TO CHANGE

As the world spins on its axis tilt

Twenty-four hours of blood to be spilled

Humanity’s participants long for the day

Brutality and evil will have gone away

If history speaks as loudly as it does

Bullets and famine will win over love

Turbulence and chaos reflected in the skies

Surprisingly, some naively still ask: why?

Though beauty of flora and fauna still exist

As casket wreaths, its spoils their bliss

Mankind toward destruction seems inclined

What miracle to change will it have to find?

RELENTLESS WAR of BELIEFS

For all the suffering and malcontent

Giving rise to hell on Earth – destruction bent

For the energies that are being ill-spent

Humanity’s dissolution is the final end event

Gory are the pictures of dead and the maimed

In whose honor is this blasphemy named

And in the end, what is to be gained?

For some pious belief or altruistic fame.

I am tired of the need to descent

To throw stones that don’t even dent

Bullet chamber in reply being spent

When will this needless human suffering relent?

The factions on each side

To ancient belief they blindly abide

But the reality will not hide

When today’s loved ones are the ones to die!

The Blame

wedge

Myopic is the global, political mindset,
It yields the greatest electoral return,
Foregoing the interest of the unborn children,
Yields fossil fuels legislated to pollute, opposition to spurn.

Jobs, jobs, and more jobs
The rationale to explain and excuse
The destruction of earthly resources
Health and welfare of the many to be abused

Fracking, pipelines nomenclature of the day,
Hyped as essential for the economy to survive.
Forests and fresh water resources given to the cause;
Deemed unessential for humanity to flourish and thrive.

The powers that be hold all the relevant cards,
The balance of power rests in their hand.
To reverse the current destructive, global path;
The powerless together, must unite and band.

Populace, street demonstrations are impudent to needed change;
A more powerful, permanent message may be needed, enforced.
A global, collective opposition to those self-serving and rule;
A tangible, visible sign of change that all humanity can endorse.

Violence, loss of property and life is not the wanted course,
Yet they whom hold the power for conditions to be sustained
Continue to ignore the plight and demands of the many;
Whatever the outcome, responsibility, to them, the blame, remains.

Life-Path

lifepath

As I walked this cold winter’s day I encounter a humble looking man wheeling with difficulty on the snow and ice laden side-walk, a tattered store shopping cart filled with age-weathered odds and ends. To avoid the narrowing passage-way I raised my hand to indicate my alternate path to which he took as a sign of acknowledgement and, reacted with a quite hello. Sizing up the stranger, wearing a dirt-stained hooded winter coat, he looked to be a man of the street, possibly homeless. We both stopped momentarily if not only long enough for me to gaze into his eyes and observe the hardship pained on his unshaven and age-creased face and, to my astonishment, presuming the harshness of this man’s life-journey, he smiled exposing his failing, decaying teeth, reflective of his beaten state and likelihood of much pain. In those few brief moments of encounter two main thoughts came to mind: firstly, how one who shows all outward signs of a dark, humble and difficult life could/would react to such a brief encounter with another, with a smile and, second; to question if each human, life-journey presents situations of, or by, our making or, a path to fulfill a preordained destiny.

reality asserts itself

Borrowing from The Real New Network’s (trnn.com) interview series titled: REALITY ASSERTS ITSELF and, in reaction to a new series of interviews titled: Hedges and Binney on Obama NSA guidelines – Reality Asserts Itself Pt.1 :

Reality Asserts Itself

An increasingly disturbing Reality, not to belie
Though a subversive body of exaggerated wealth
A global-cabal, is adamant to try.

The role of political national governance
Goes beyond the pale;
This duly elected, legislative body,
Increasingly considers humanity a viable sale.

The unabashed power of the central few
Gather with public eyes wide shut;
To discuss secretively, what next to do,
While the mass-consumer digs deeper, a debt-laden rut.

Conspiratorial voices clamber to sound the alarm
Of the growing tyranny of a global fascist regime;
Producing irrefutable evidence of truth to freedom’s harm;
While mainstream media stays lost, promoting their delusional dream.

Technological distractions designed to placate a disturbing reality
To counter any mass-ambition to take-a–stand, to fight;
The growing dissolution of individual freedoms and liberty
Questioning: Where will it all lead, what end is in sight?

A SPIDER’S TALE

DSCF0097

Silk-String Weave

The spider’s cobweb weave
Creates an inaudible sound
One heard only by insects
That abound

Like a magnet the attraction
Is unseen
But once caught
It becomes a nightmarish dream

Vibration of a thing’s approach
Instills a fear
A flash of self-reproach

Fruitless struggle
A thought to resign
Life’s fleeting memory
Too short to define

The demon to this source
Follows its tactical course
With success in mind
A carcass to be left behind

To what do we despair?
To the death of one
Or the success
That seems unfair.

Spider To The Fly

`I have you now and most assuredly will you die’
Said the spider to the web caught fly

`Why must I die’ sheepishly cried the fly
`When there others to eat, why not pass me by?’

`You are here and now so am I’ was the spider’s reply
`And I am hungry to eat you, this I will not deny’

`Oh my, oh my’ continued to cry the fly
`What will my family do if I am now to die?’

`Not of my concern’ was the spider’s ominous cry
Its sharp fangs piercing the succulent, helpless fly

`Oh wow is me’ cried the fly `I guess this goodbye’
Trying to escape, giving it just one last try

The spider’s fangs piercing deeper, holding tight the fly
Relished in its good taste, ignoring the fly’s weakening cries

The fly’s hollowed body with its nourishing fluids sucked dry
Lay next to the ravenous spider anxiously waiting ‘til its next victim comes by.

Something?

question

It’s been quite cold and windy for several days
So indoors is where I’ve tended to stay
To pass the idle hours with lack of things to play
I’ve taken to write, to have my say
So with nothing standing in my way
These thoughts I wish to convey:

The world has become a convoluted place
Six billion plus souls comprised of many a race
Let’s not forget, and of every kind of faith
Both source to acts of human evil and disgrace

Turmoil and chaos seem incessant and growing
Instant communications has everyone knowing
That money and blood are things most flowing
And backward seems progress is truly going

Fiat currencies seem to have met their match
Ponsi schemes to wealth are becoming unlatched
Thieving bankers getting richer and unable to catch
Well the common man runs out of `scratch’

Technology the scourge of automated wars
Politicians and lobbyists obliging whores
Consumerism still the ultimate lure
Global bankruptcy might become the final cure

Progress’ pollution disputed as foul weather’s cause
Yet it continues despite enforcement of countless laws
The question to be asked: what will be the last straw?
To show humanity it is the cause, the flaw!

Sorrowful is this bit of verbal tripe
Of how I’ve come to view this dire, modern life
It is not spoken out of any kind of spite
It is to wish for something to make it right.

Pathology to Society’s Psychopathic State-of-Mind

psycchopathy
Psychopathy is among the most difficult disorders to spot. The psychopath can appear normal, even charming. Underneath, they lack conscience and empathy, making them manipulative, volatile and often (but by no means always) criminal. They are an object of popular fascination and clinical anguish: psychopathy is largely impervious to treatment. (www.psychologytoday.com/basics/psychopathy‎)

Reflecting upon the seemingly incessant, global conflagrations and transgressions instigated by foreign policies of predominately western, democratically elected governments; hence with the concurrence and acquiescence of its populace; wars, sanctions and similar persecutions inflicted upon lesser nations and its Peoples, reasoned as humanitarian and altruistic in their motivation; is it unjust to identify the behavior of western civil society over the past, several decades as psychopathic in nature?

Examination of history documenting the motivations that instigate conflict, be it regional or international, often produces a conflicting picture of accountability of reason and responsibility given that such history is more often than not, written by the victor. This potential for biasing the factors for resolve of conflict undermines deriving the truths to its rational justification. Therefore, what remains to decipher rationale leading to justification and validity for past conflict(s) is/are the manner and method(s) of its execution/resolution. Namely, the balance of destructive power versus diplomatic resolution.

It is easy to recognize that the reasons/rationale that contribute to conflict, to any degree among nations, most often is not a simple binary matter of dispute. Too, conflict as physical war typically, is represented publicly as the least probable of potential responses. However, it is here the basis for evidence of psychopathic behavior is most likely to be found.

Ultimately. war to any degree. by virtue of its enormous human and financial cost, disruption if not dissolution of civil social order, is easily definable as psychopathic. It remains therefore, to which of the parties to the conflict is more psychopathic than the other.

To explore this assertion, the turmoil that has enveloped the globe commencing with the attack on the World Trade Centre infamously refereed to as 9-11; as prime illustration to pathology of psychopathy is the reaction to 9-11 as exhorted by governments of the United States, and its Coalition allies such as Great Britain, France, Germany and other lesser Nations but not to exclude Israel and their mutual allies throughout the Middle East, principally Saudi Arabia.

To detail  the evolution of the conflicts arising from the United States’ direct retaliation for 9-11, primarily against countries comprising the Middle Eastern region, would take a book.  However, what can be gleaned from the pathology of events commencing with the immediate bombardment of Afghanistan in a failed attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden and his band of warriors known as Al Quadi, the purported principal perpetrator of 9-11; and, the later March 2003 `Shock and Awe’ attack of Iraq on erroneous justification Saddam Hussein both assisted in the 9-11 event and, had attained the ability to produce nuclear weapons hyped as `Weapons of Mass Destruction’ or, WMD’s for short; is a product of a psychopathic mindset of all parties responsible for crucial decisions by officials of national governments leading to the malaise that exists not only throughout the Middle East, but globally today.

It is clearly evident the individuals comprising the American neoconservative (neocon) establishment are to be deemed responsible for goading the Bush-Chaney Administration into attacking Iraq under false pretense, it is too clearly evident they met with little to no resistance but were in fact, emulated for their efforts. Further, the abdication of international mass-media’s responsibly to journalistically report factually the circumstances that eventually led to invasion of Iraq; the Joint Chiefs of Staff advising and directing the coalition war machine are but a few to be name as responsible. However, though the names of those directly responsible fade from human consciousness, these same individual, human souls must bear the label of `psychopath’ for the false wisdom and leadership that’s contributed to global events that continue to unfold.

Essentially, as of the date to this writing, twelve plus years have lapsed since 9-11 and the turmoil, bloodshed and massive destruction of established civilizations not only continues, but is expanding throughout the Middle Eastern region and beyond with little hope for its ending in sight.

In conclusion; it is as much to state, with a degree of pessimistic confidence, the entire global population by its seeming  acquiescence to the actions of global leadership, revolves within a pathetic, psychopathic state of mind.
