It Seems Inevitable…

jpaper

The CBC’s (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) recent News story spoke to the despair, heart-ache and suffering experienced by one of the many victims of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing incident.  The narrative and accompanying video clip was effective in stirring  sympathy and compassion for what this individual and no-doubt all victims and their families, have had to endure.

It is difficult to understand how the People of the United States can expect immunity from the detrimental affects of aggression enacted in their name. For it is their democratically elected government, to whom they entrust powers to commit to acts of war, economic sanctions and other forms of provocation upon other nations.

World War II netted the United States to be the most powerful military and economic nation of the planet.  The United States maintaining its global leadership position during the five decades preceding commencement of the 21st century, embarked upon several foreign policy initiatives strictly for ridding the world of any semblance of communism/socialist influence.  This decisive policy purportedly the impetus to conflicts arising first in the early 1950’s with North Korea supported by communist China and still an issue ; early in the 1960’s North Vietnam also with the support of China, advancing into the south; in the early 1960’s, confrontation with the Soviet Union over the Cuban Missile crisis; in the late 1980’s, an advisory role supporting newly established Al-Qaeda in defence of Afghanistan against Soviet Union advances. The irony in each of these conflicts is the realization that in the end, the United States with all its financial and military might, effectively failed to reach its stated foreign policy goals in each instance of conflict. Arguably, the beneficial outcome of retarding if not stopping advances of socialist communism in these regions by US led initiatives, could have been achieved with less destruction and loss of life through United Nations’ economic sanctions and diplomacy. Lastly, though not related to socialist communism; at the beginning of the 1990’s saw the annihilation of Iraq’s Saddam Hussein forces instigated by its advances into Kuwait oil fields only to render a state of wide-spread destruction of important national infrastructure and to subsequently lead to incitement of wide-spread sectarian violence throughout the Middle East today.

The destruction of the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001 purportedly enacted by Islamic extremist is the first major incident post WW II to occur within the national United States resulting in the loss of approximately three-thousand innocent lives and serious injury to many more. The next and only major incident deemed an act of Islamic related terrorism is the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing with the death of three and serious injury to more than two-hundred.

Unacceptable as the loss of life and injury is to innocent victims; it is difficult to arouse too much sympathy for the United States as a whole when put into context of the number of innocent lives taken by it and its allies, military forces and most recent, its active Drone program; all in the name of advancing democracy when the true objective is the advancement of Capitalism.

At no other time has the reality to what drives United States and complicit global allies foreign policy been so evident: the Corporate-Capitalist-State.

The power of American multi-national corporations in their insatiable quest to render all nations’ resources and their Peoples subservient has proven to usurp the true essence of social democracy the United States and like nations, purport to profess through political rhetoric.

In prior decades the ruthless advancement of the corporate state was reserved for those beyond US shores however, since the engineered global financial collapse of 2007-08, it has become fully evident within the national United States.

In conclusion, relating to one of the basic laws of physics: for ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction; the Peoples of the United States and for that matter, all Nation’s complicit in acts of aggression with similar capitalistic motivations, should take heed and, unless they, through their democratic, electoral processes, impose upon their government(s), re-examination of the status quo to foreign policy initiatives and, to which entity of authority is to be given the power to direct into the future, it seems obvious that there is likely to be more senseless loss of life and destruction of property. It seems inevitable.

Dichotomy In The Human Experience

Like the planet, spinning, spiraling outward along with its cousin planets comprising this spacial galaxy, fueled by the energy of its central body Sun traveling through the dark void of space; the events comprising the history of Earth’s current epoch of human inhabitants, ravel timelessly toward an unknown destiny.

Each twenty-four hour cycle of Earth’s excursion toward the unknown speaks to the life stories of its seven-billion inhabitants. Stories that compose the nature of human existence within the fragile environment to which it has been mysteriously born. Stories diligently recorded and maintained over centuries of time-measured yet, authored for an unknown audience for it is evident through humanity’s ability to repeat its failings, to heed lessons taught through life-experience.

Contention surrounds the prospect that destiny plays important in the flow and ebb of human experience, a guiding energy toward an as-yet, unfathomable outcome. Though, is the daily expunging of countless, individual human lives by self-inflicted carnage and suffering expressed in wildly imaginable constructs excuse-able by such unsubstantiated reason?

The stain of evilness embodies each living soul demanding conscious effort to entomb within, to refuse succumbing to its destructive potential. Though many of human populace willingly oblige and acquiesce to the few and powerful belligerent, abusing forces within its realm; and, those whom are brave to oppose such evilness are effectively and ceremoniously stifled in their effort.

The progressive evolution of human experience too is evidenced daily reinforcing the perception that humanity at its core  holds to ideals exercised as humane and goodly acts.

It is this perplexing dichotomy in human nature compounded by the inability to clearly define purpose to presence on Earth that both propels and stifles the human experience and progressive evolution, unrestricted to its fullest potential.

Freedom’s Voice

gag

Long and loud is professed the freedoms of Democracy;

Yet those whom challenge to demonstrate with verbosity,

Bare the real truth to this constitutional hypocrisy.

While those whom have gained electoral powers

Confront public anger from safety of legislative towers;

Brutal force disperses the anger with rubber-bullets and tear-gas showers

Institutional elite and corporations direct the political and judicial show;

To defy this pervasive condition or attempt chance to over-throw

Is recipe for wrongful imprisonment or, death as some have come to know.

Few brave souls have risen to confront the foundations of Establishment;

The likes of Assange, Manning, Snowdon now relegated to hidden confinement;

Smeared by complicit mainstream media’s negative embellishment.

The Western World has long been the breeding ground for a Police State;

General public apathy and ignorance allowing the condition to infiltrate;

Now metastasized beyond ability to reverse and mitigate.

Failure to acknowledge, to confront the direness to this state of reality

Is to relegate future generations to the conditions veracity;

Relegating freedom’s voice forever, to the state of banality.

Turnkey Tyranny’

Upon viewing the linked video detailing the actions of the NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowdon, I was inspired to compose the following poem in response to the interviewee’s closing statment.

`Turnkey Tyranny’

What is the price willingly paid

When freedom and liberty is stolen away?

By forces that impose their sanctioned goals,

Regardless of the broader public price toll.

Incipient, insidious government surveillance policy

Contrived to impede malicious terrorist atrocity

Purchased by acquiescent public consent

Propagandized as injury or loss to life, to prevent

As new generations become calloused to the intrusion

The greater will be `Big Brother’ policy infusion

Global society made impotent through complacency

To potential One World Government’s `turnkey tyranny’.

Advocates

 gb

Allan Ginsberg’s Howl, William Burroughs’ Naked Lunch and, Paul Goodman a novelist,playwriter and social activist; all advocates and adventurous men of original literary acclaim to the avant-garde, rebels in and of their time, garnering unsolicited reputation for challenging the buttressed and stalwart, civil-conservative institution of literature and civil-society at large; these great, inspirational authors and each provocatures of past little known, unfortunately, by many contemporary authors and public.

The ironic thread that strings these three men in particular, is not limited to their willingness to trash contemporary style, form and theme, the hallmarks of accepted and flourishing literature of their time but, their sexuality.  Both Goodman and Burroughs were bi-sexual and Ginsberg, homosexual.

So what relevance does sexual-orientation have for their works being recognized as profound and revolutionary contributions to the literary realm given at times, the shocking crudeness and vulgarity of language describing in vile and gutteral detail, perceived deviant sexuality, heroin addiction and smoking of pot expressed in wildly random, convoluted style and form contrary to the conservative and conventional literary publications in and of their time?

Though to a considerably lesser extent today given current human and equal-rights legislative reforms; during the life-time of these men homosexuals and bisexual were heavily persecuted, deemed tarnished reprobate, sick people and legally classified as mentally ill and, subject to arrest if caught or reported performing sexual acts with other men often relegated to secrecy and  cover of darkness.

It is no wonder given the harshness of the social environment imposed on these men and others of their era,  would resort to free-form expression to expunge the hatred and hostility they all were grudgingly obliged to endure.

In The Wake of Extreme Violence

flag

The events of the past week with the Boston Bombings serves to re-awaken questions regarding sacrificing personal freedoms and social liberty for what can only amount to a  `false’ sense of security as simply illustrated by the event occurring.

The United States since 911, likely more than any other nation, has spent billions on increased security, surveillance and technology yet senseless acts such as Boston’s proves this point.

Canadian politicizing of the Boston Bombing event reared its head when a National News interview with newly elected Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau, was posed the hypothetical question: how, if prime minister, would he respond in the after-math of such an event? .

What the question ultimately served to illustrate was not so much Trudeau’s hypothetical ability to correctly perform or respond but, the irrational, short-sighted logic of our currently elected officials in particular: Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Harper’s rebuttal to Justin Trudeau’s view on addressing social violence ie terrorism, is clear evidence to this by stating the following:

The PM claims `..you do not sit around trying to rationalize it or make excuses for it or try to figure out its root causes‘ .  It is the last part of this statement that most reflects the depth of stupidity of our elected government.

This is tantamount to saying: if your house keeps getting broken into by the poor kid down the street the solution is to get a security system and demand more police and prisons. Don’t bother to ask why is the kid poor causing him to resort to stealing.

This short-sighted approach to not only societal problems but to all problems confronting government is what leads to levels of frustration and anger by the disenfranchised leading to outlandish and violent acts as happen in the US.

Harper-government’s policies framed on the ill-logic illustrated by this example – potentially here in Canada too.

Tommorow’s End?

GRIM

As living witness to decades of global history in the making, present to experience several international, national and regional military wars and civil conflicts, human rights abuses; obvious environmental polluting and dissemination through strip mining, deforestation and, similar industrial-commercial level agricultural activity; the fundamental cause and purpose has been by the design and reasoning by those elected and/or appointed to objectively serve in the best interest of  majority of fellow earthly inhabitants but in truth, ultimately, represent a minority, monetarily powerful, greedy and, self-interested élite cabal.

History well documents the political rhetoric and spilled blood of past revolutionary uprising spawned by cycles of repression by those whom believe it possible to cultivate a socio-economic climate that renders majority of a nation’s Peoples a life of submission and servitude while reaping the major benefit of its productivity. Though the current global economic and social crisis seems ripe for instigation of a contemporary revolution, it need first face an increasingly invasive and purvasively intrusive advanced communication technology and security infrastructure, a malevolent response to contrived, counter-terrorism fears that are willingly embraced by naïve, il-informed, consumerist motivated generation of youth.

In direct response to the global financial melt-down commenced 2007 that persists to date, is the Occupy Movement. A spontaneous collaboration of predominantly middle-class citizens of all ages and disciplines, the poor and down-trodden marching, demonstrating in defiance to the greed and criminality of the financial institutions directly responsible for the crisis and, the ineptness of national governments to  equitably and lawfully hold said institutions accountable.  Truly, a national and global revolutionary movement against the world’s elite, captioned the ‘one-percent’, versus the `99-percent’ of global citizens represented by the Movement.

Political leaders of all affected nations wasted little time to make universally known; their allegiance is to the power élite by quashing the Occupy Movement  as quickly as it had started.

For any one person to not recognize and acknowledge the strategic state of chaos being manufactured and imposed under the guise of global terrorism and immanent financial collapse demanding the full submission and rendering of human-rights of all common People’s to the will and control of the power élite and their political minions, is to acknowledge their dire-state of ignorance and abdication from responsibility to allow for such a state.

Every sector comprising global, civil-society is in a dire state of flux: elected governmental authority, guardians to the rights of the People, are impudent in their leadership, unwilling to defy the tyranny of global financial institutions grown too large and powerful as to supersede even the force of civil-law; religious institution in the name of the Vatican, crumbling under the weight of scandal leading to the sudden retirement of the Pope, only to have occurred once ever before over 600 years ago; unrelenting pursuance and decimation of ‘whistle-blowers’, those among us whom moral state of consciousness demands they speak out against the establishment engaged in illegal, inhumane and immoral propriety.

It is the collective of all that could be wrong and corrosive to a healthy, well-functioning, morally free civil society that has embraced itself with and by consent of the few whom have usurped their authority and taken control.

The power of the ‘ill-doers’ is heavily entrenched, buttressed with an increasingly militarized police authority to support their definition of civil order; a heavily intrusive surveillance mechanism to thwart discontent at its inception; an acquiescent judicial and media community to dismay `whistle-blowers’ from speaking out; and, full control and manipulation of economies and money supply.

Given these dire and seemingly insurmountable odds against majority of humanity ever regaining their inalienable right to equality and pursuance of freedoms for a quality life and liberty to which all are born leads to ask: Is this witness to Tomorrow’s End ?.

Two-tier Legal System:

blindThe ubiquitous access to wireless, electronic information raises increasingly relevant questions and concerns to what belongs to the People’s Common-wealth specifically; does the legal defense of government sponsored, corporate profit gain supersede the People’s right’s and freedoms to access all forms of digitized knowledge categorized as intellectual property?

The duplicity and hypocrisy of the legal system in dealing with cases of fraud, theft and ethical business practice is no better illustrated then in the prosecution of  offenses under the criminal code of the land, as that pertaining to the Internet (cyber-crime) and the institutionalized, financial banking system.

Two recent cases within the media can no better highlight the existence of a TWO-TIER LEGAL SYSTEM:

Case A: Aaron Swartz paid the ultimate price in defense of his right to access, utilizing what was at the time free and legal for his doing so, professional articles licensed by  Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) via on-campus, wireless and connected technology. The charges brought against him were for essentially ‘hacking’ into the MIT system for unauthorized downloading of numerous articles. .  The Prosecution was seeking a maximum 35 years in prison however, claims, a plea-bargain for a guilty plea to the charge would reduce this to a six month term.  Though not fully understood why, the two-year long proceeding is blamed to be cause for Mr. Swartz to take his own life but many dispute this claim.To delve deeper reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Swartz.

Case B: The HSBC Bank (http://www.globalresearch.ca/sweetheart-settlement-for-hsbc-bank-on-drug-money-laundering-charges/5315486), found guilty of aiding and abetting money laundering for drug cartels; negotiating and process to sanctioned Iran and numerous other criminal activities that could have amounted to loosing license to practice in the United States were ultimately find 1.4billion dollars. An amounted reputed to be recoverable by HSBC in a matter of four weeks of banking activity. The conclusion of the prosecution in not pursuing the ultimate penalty is the claim that such would dramatically and drastically affect the financial and banking interests, both domestically and internationally, having disastrous affect on an already tenuous economic recovery. In the end no banking official at any level within the organization was criminally prosecuted and imprisoned for their involvement and promulgation of the crimes committed.  In essence HSBC is too big to indite for any present and or future criminal activity rendering them carte-blance to do as they please.

These are but two cases that should rile any law-abiding citizen to rally against the legal system of the United States and other western nations that are willing and obliging to follow suit in these matters.

Poetic Lethargy

Embarking upon this new year 2013, after decades of writing and amassing hundreds of poems, prose and a variety of essay on a spectrum of topic; you might say my `muse to the moment’ so expressed, I have decided when warranted, to provide a preamble to what is posted with the intent of adding context or background. Ideally this will add a touch of `color’ to better illustrate the reason or understanding to the posting’s content.

To this end, here is the first of the 2013 series:

As any writer, author, I experience from time to time a sense of frustration stemming from the seeming inability to attract critical attention to my works.  This garners a sense that what is being written is inadequate, superfluous, non-relevant yet, for some unfathomable reason, like an addiction to recreational drugs, I continue to spoon out page after page of material.  This frustration from time to time must be expelled by expressing it in written form – a catharsis if you will.  Hence, the following:

Poetic Lethargy

Much to write, much to say
This my life, has become the way
Yet, not one heeds the words wrote
Let alone, the words spoke.

There is no special wisdom or insight to behold
But to transcend what my consciousness is told,
The unknown words of thought brought to the light of day,
Leaving to others to interpret what they have to say.

So what becomes of this poetic lethargy?
How to release the creative energy,
To dispel the thoughts, those that come to mind
With want only to make see, the literary blind?
